KOLI ICE ROAD - VUONISLAHTI
A not-to-be-missed point of interest when visiting the town, ideal for swimming in the lakes in summer and winter alike
Finland is a curious country. As well as swimming in the lakes, they drive or walk on them as soon as they freeze over. Every winter, the Finnish Road Administration is responsible for opening the ice road between Koli (at the campsite) and the port of Vuonislahti, as soon as the ice reaches 40 centimetres. The 7 km stretch has a speed limit of 50 km/h and a maximum weight limit of 3 tonnes. The road is sometimes closed due to bad weather, faults or flooding..
