Edwardville was incorporated in 1818. It was named after Ninian Edwards, who was the governor of the Illinois Territory in the early 19th century. Today, Edwardville is home to approximately 27,000 residents. It is a pleasant little town located near the first valleys through which the Mississippi River meanders. Route 66 runs through it via Hillsboro Ave, E Vandalia St and St. Louis. Although the Mustang Corral (an Ali Baba's cave for Ford Mustang lovers) disappeared in 2016, there are still some beautiful testimonies of the Mother Road in the heart of the city, including the Wildey Theatre (1909), and about forty historic buildings.
