Litchfield is home to 6,600 residents. Founded in 1853, it was originally called Huntsville. It was renamed in 1855 in honor of Bachus Litchfield who, along with his brothers, donated land and convinced the railroad to locate here. Although some of the town has been modernized considerably, there are still a few special places along Route 66 to stop. Don't miss the 1950 Sky View Drive-in Theatre, or the 1931 Ariston Café. Across from the latter, the Route 66 Visitor Center is worth a visit. At the south entrance of the city is the Belvidere Motel (now a home), whose facade dates from 1934.
