Leaving Route 66 along Interstate I-55, just outside of Glenarm, is a covered bridge that has become one of Illinois' rarities: the Sugar Creek Covered Bridge. This 20 meter long bridge was built around 1880 and last renovated in 1965. It is one of only five remaining 19th century covered bridges in Illinois. It is constructed entirely of wood, including the roof. It is accessible only by foot. For accuracy in locating it, the site is 4 miles east of 1920-30 Route 66 (Highway 4) or 1.5 miles west of I-55 (Exit 83 - Glenarm), the 1930-40 Route 66
