Collinsville is located east of Route 66 and will eventually be of interest only to those who chose to reach St. Louis from Mitchell via the 1940-50 Route 66 (SR 111). It is a former mining town with a population of just under 25,000. It offers a panoramic view of the Gateway Arch and downtown St. Louis. You can stop by the archaeological site of Cahokia Mound and the water tower located south of Main Street, which is in fact the largest ketchup bottle in the world (52 meters). Collinsville is also the horseradish capital of the world (a plant whose root is used as a condiment).
