Thanks to its wealth of biodiversity and the beauty of its sites, the Caraça Natural Park is an exceptional destination covering 11,000 ha, and is today an important ecological reserve. Among the local fauna - one of the most diverse in central Brazil - are rodents such as the caxinguelê, felines including the maracaja cat and puma, the tapir, and the maned wolf, the animal symbol of Caraça Park. The exceptional richness of Caraça's flora and fauna can be explained by the region's location, in a transition zone between the Atlantic forest and the Cerrado, at altitudes ranging from 750 m to 2,100 m. Climatic differences allow for the coexistence of very different ecosystems in a relatively small area.A minimum two-day stay is recommended to enjoy the infinite nuances of the park's beauties, often located several kilometers' walk from one another. Every day, visitors can choose from a wide range of trails to discover caves, waterfalls and rocky peaks, the highest of which rises to 2,072 m. The site is extremely well preserved and lends itself perfectly to ecotourism. Accommodation is available within the park itself. You can sleep in the Caraça sanctuary, created by Dom Pedro I. If you're lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of the shy maned wolves that the late Father Tobias used to feed as soon as he got home.
