Travel Guide Floresta Nacional Do Tapajós

A forest reserve 80 km from Santarém, 650 000 ha of primary tropical forest. One can walk there, on foot and by boat, to observe the flora (in particular "sumaunás", whose trunks can exceed 25 m in circumference), and a little fauna (insects and birds mainly) and two centers of treatment of the rubber tree, one of the resources of the inhabitants. They are grouped in two communities of the park, Maguary and Jamaracuá. The locals will be happy to welcome you and you can spend the night there (meals included) in basic conditions: hammock (bring your own), neither running water nor electricity (bring a headlamp).
