Lac-Bouchette is located south of Chambord, a stone's throw from Route 155, which links the Lac-Saint-Jean region to the Mauricie region. It was named after the surveyor Joseph Bouchette who explored the area in 1828 with a view to colonization. At the beginning of the 20th century, a small chapel was erected there by Father Elzéar Delamarre, dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua. The first pilgrims followed around 1912 and another chapel was built three years later, this time dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes. Then, in 1948, the Capuchins erected a monastery which would soon be considered a national shrine, the Hermitage of Saint Anthony.
