Travel Guide Nosy Raty

Nosy Raty is the closest of Nosy Be's neighboring islands, and one of its smallest satellite islands. Nosy Raty lies to the west of Nosy Be and to the northeast of Nosy Sakiata. It's also a tiny island that is primarily an ancestral abode, a necropolis dotted with tombs and windswept sacred places. In order to respect the rituals and sacred nature of the place, we strongly recommend that you only go there in the company of local Malagasy who know all the fady (prohibitions) in force, and who will no doubt suggest that you take some rum with you to carry out the customary fomba (traditions).
