Just half an hour by pirogue from Elinkine, this island lost in the bolongs is a little paradise on earth. Its fine sandy beach, planted with palm trees, is hemmed in by salty, fish-filled waters that invite you to take a dip. Also known as "l'île des féticheurs", in the days of the colonists it was a den of brigands until a man from Mali, Niaky Soumaré, dislodged them and settled here with his family. Today, the sacred island has a population of around 300, living mainly from fishing. Legend has it that no one is buried here, as their bodies would rise to the surface. There is a cemetery on the opposite island.
