Hawi is a small town of barely a thousand souls that is best known as one of the major stops in the Ironman triathlon. Located in the northwest of the island, it is a good base camp to visit the Kohala coast! We love its Wild West feel and its colorful wooden storefronts, as well as its beautiful farms offering spectacular views of the sea. Impossible not to feel a little desire to settle there. There is a convenience store on site and several small roadside restaurants. King Kamehameha I was born near Hawi, hence the golden statue that stands proudly in the town center.
