A city of nearly 30,000 people in St. Tammany Parish, it was founded in the 1880s during the construction of the New Orleans and Northeastern Railroad. An important suburb of New Orleans, it is known for its swamp tours offered at the Honey Island Swamp, but also for its historic district, the Olde Towne Slidell. This is where the Slidell's Antique District Street Fair is held in the spring and fall. Also not to be missed are the free outdoor concerts at Heritage Park (spring and fall) and the Old Town Slidell Soda Shop's sodas and ice cream.
