Travel Guide El Junco

19 km from Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, on the heights, 2 hours walk after El Progreso, you will discover this fresh water lagoon of 273 m in diameter and 6 m deep, nestled in the crater of an inactive volcano, at 650 m altitude. Its name comes from the name of the sage (Junco) which is very present here. It is the source of fresh water for the island (the only reserve in the archipelago). You can walk around the crater in about 30 minutes, and observe frigate birds and many other species of birds that nest on its shores (finches, ducks...). There is also a beautiful view of the ocean and other surrounding islets.
