A seaside resort with a lively nightlife, it was heavily affected by the 2016 earthquake and many establishments, restaurants, hotels, shops, had to close their doors following the disaster. If the city has gradually rebuilt, especially towards the beachfront, it still bears the scars of the earthquake remaining here and there. As for its neighbor, Canoa, one of the most popular seaside resorts in the country, it has been deserted by tourists (many from the interior), which has led to the closure of some hotels that survived the earthquake, not the crisis. In short, the city has regained its colors, but we admit that we prefer Canoa and its beautiful beaches, which resembles Montañita, but with the added tranquility!
