In 2016, the city lost the vast majority of its hotel infrastructure (just to mention the tourism sector). However, the government launched a massive reconstruction campaign in the aftermath, despite the country's current economic difficulties. An alternative between the city Bahía de Caráquez and the party town Montañita, Canoa preserves its long and beautiful sandy beach, which some consider to be one of the prettiest in the country, while at the same time exuding a tranquil atmosphere of a human-sized seaside resort. It is a spot appreciated by surfers all year round where the waves are less spectacular than in Montañita. Swimming, surfing and chill out are all available, without forgetting to venture to the Isla Corazón invaded by the Mangrove.
