Next to Puerto Lopez, Salango was a pre-Columbian colony settled just in front of the eponymous island. This small village is known for its fish cannery, which sometimes gives off fearsome fumes. A 5 km long beach stretches out in front of the Pacific Ocean. From there, excursions to Isla Salango can be organized, although visitors often prefer to leave from Puerto Lopez (30 minutes by boat). The inhabitants of Salango are looking to consolidate their economic development by promoting community-based ecotourism and a few projects will probably see the light of day soon, offering new choices of accommodation and activities.
