A flagship region for the conservation of reptiles, amphibians, mammals (capuchin monkeys, agoutis, deer, spectacled bears...), avifauna (parrots, finches, tyrants, rock cocks...) and flora (bromeliads, orchids...), the site is classified as an IBA (Important Bird Area) by Birdlife International. It is indeed an area of great importance for the conservation of snakes, mammals and birds. The flora is also varied, with many endemic plant species. Trails leading to the major sites of interest have been laid out to facilitate nature observation.
