Dornoch is known for its relaxed lifestyle and golf courses. Its main historical building is its 13th century cathedral. Partially destroyed by fire in 1570, it was completely restored by the Countess of Sutherland in the early 19th century. Between the Dornoch Firth and the Moray Firth lies the green and hilly East Ross region. The peninsula between Inverness and the Cromarty Firth is called Black Isle, but is not an island. The name will speak to fans of Scottish craft beers. The town is served by the Stagecoach X99 bus which connects it to Inverness in 1h10, as well as to the whole east coast as far as Wick and Thurso.
