Caressed by the waters of the endless Loch Shin, Lairg has no attractions of its own, but is literally at the crossroads between the north, south, east and west of the Highlands. In the area, don't miss the Falls of Shin, which is 7.5 kilometers south of the village on the B864. You won't want to miss the large parking lot that marks them. These fishy waterfalls are full of salmon and it is not unusual to see them jumping. By train, Lairg is 1h45 from Inverness, on the line that also serves Helmsdale, Wick and Thurso (www.scotrail.co.uk). The Durness Bus 806 also goes to Durness at 2h30(www.travelinescotland.com).
