Located 53 km west of Kōbe, Himeji Castle is one of the most important tourist destinations in Japan. It is considered the most beautiful castle in the archipelago and was inscribed on the Unesco World Heritage List in 1993, as it illustrates "the most perfect expression of early 17th century castle architecture in Japan." Before arriving in Himeji, one passes by the Akashi Kaikyō Bridge in the town of Akashi, located about ten kilometers from Kōbe, which connects the island of Honshū to the island of Awaji. At 3,910 meters long, it is the longest suspension bridge in the world. A region of Kansai not to be missed.
