Since the end of 2012, this village has been part of Savonlinna, 20 km to the east, and boasts the world's largest wooden church! Once you've arrived, be sure to take a look - it's majestic! This is also where the battles against the Russians were fought during the Winter and Continuation Wars. A small museum, housed in the Hotel Herttua, recounts these events. Buses run to and from Savonlinna. Beware, however, that the direction to the train station can be tricky: the Kerimäki station is some ten kilometers away!
