The village of Travers, inhabited by the Traversins, is crossed (!) by the Route de l'Absinthe, a cultural and tourist itinerary linking Pontarlier to Noiraigue, a few kilometers to the north on the road to Neuchâtel. It was in 1711 that asphalt was discovered on the commune's territory. It was mined from 1717 to 1986, notably in the Presta mine, which became the largest deposit of its kind in Europe. The site is now open to visitors. On site, the Café des Mines serves the famous ham cooked in asphalt (at 160° C), a traditional miner's dish that would be a shame not to try.
