The sacred island of Rubane is separated from Bubaque by a channel with a strong current. The Bijagos don't live there all year round. They only go there during the rainy season to grow rice. Rubane is a wild island with magnificent beaches. It's well worth a day trip, or even an overnight stay. To get there by pirogue from Bubaque, ask at the port or at the hotel. Rubane is home to two hotels with environmentally-friendly policies. And both offer memorable sport fishing trips!
