40 minutes from Bissau, on a good tarmac road. Go as far as the airport traffic circle and turn left (west). This typical town is built along a pretty bolong, where it's good to swim, although the bottom is muddy. Arriving from Bissau, just before the market, you can walk down a lovely alley shaded by mango trees, planted in Portuguese times. It's also pleasant to lose yourself in the dirt paths of this traditional village and observe the life of its inhabitants. Note the majestic sacred cheese trees, marked by the altars of the Papel ethnic group, where animist ceremonies are held.
