A small village near the Czech border, whose nearest town is Kamienna Góra, 7 km away, it has two splendid and very well preserved baroque Cistercian churches. The richness of its religious heritage comes from the great wealth of the monks who received these lands in 1242, as a gift from the duchess Anne, widow of Henry the Pious. Her grandson Bolko I, Strict, then prince of Jawor, bought the property in 1289 to found a Cistercian abbey, one of the most powerful and influential orders of the medieval period. The first church was erected on the present site and became the resting place of the dukes of Świdnica.
