Every Pole knows poet Jan Brzechwa's tongue-twister: W Szczebrzeszynie chrząszcz brzmi w trzcinie, "the chafer buzzes in the reeds in Szczebrzecin". And it's true! In the middle of the valleys of the Gorajec and Wieprz rivers, rich in beech forests, in summer the chafer buzzes everywhere among the reeds that abound along the rivers. This small town is well worth a visit if you're travelling through the region. It lies 20 km from Zamość on the road to Bilgoraj. Prosperous between the 16th and 19th centuries, when it was the regional center of the antitsarist movement, it is now somewhat abandoned.
