The city of Zhovkva was established at the beginning of the 17th century by enlightened Polish princes who wished to import into their plains the ideal plans designed by the Italian masters of the Renaissance. Based on the model of the ideal city, the city of Zhovkva has gradually declined due to political conditions unfavourable to this type of project. But the buildings built during the 17th and 18th centuries are still there, testifying to the desire to create a perfect city. With its colourful buildings, beautiful churches and ancient ramparts, Zhovkva is a beautiful excursion from Lviv.
