Bukowina Tatrzańska is a picturesque locality that is part of the municipality of the same name. It is, in fact, the highest in Poland. It has a rich history and a tradition that has been cherished for generations by its inhabitants, the mountain people. The oldest described hiking trail in the Tatras is the one that passes through Bukowina Tatrzańska. Nowadays, the town is a well-known tourist resort with a well-developed accommodation infrastructure. It offers a peaceful haven near Zakopane, which has become disproportionately populated, especially in the peak season.Bukowina Tatrzańska is a place where nature has remained untouched, counting numerous hiking trails and climbing routes and enjoying thermal waters. In December 2008, it was here that the Bukovina Spa was built, one of the largest thermal water pool complexes in Europe. In winter, it attracts skiers to the many ski lifts and ski resorts, such as Olczań-Ski or Rusiń-Ski; in summer, it amazes us with its mountain landscape, where it is still possible to see shepherds grazing their sheep. Local cheeses, such as oscypek or bundz, represent the real treasure of the regional cuisine. The Morskie Oko (Eye of the Sea), the largest lake in the Tatras, as well as the Zawrat Pass and the Dolina Pięciu Stawów (Valley of the Five Ponds), as well as the surrounding peaks - Mnich (Monk) and Orla Perć (Eagle Trail) - are cult mountaineering targets. The city hosts two famous cultural events: the Góralski Karnawał (Carnival of the Mountain People) held in winter and the Sabałowe Bajania (Polish Folklore Festival) in August. The Dom Ludowy (Folk House) houses the cultural center and is one of the largest wooden buildings in Poland. Tourists are also guaranteed contact with this living culture through the local theater Teatr Ludowy. The inhabitants of Bukowina Tatrzańska have their own folk costumes and language and they are characterized by their extraordinary hospitality. They are known for their love of mountain music, singing and dancing. The folk artists of the region continue to practice woodcarving, violin making, painting, sculpture and embroidery. A stay in the area promises a unique experience of tradition, natural beauty and activities for the whole family.
