Founded in 1593 by Jan Zamoyski as a hunting and resting residence, Zwierzyniec takes its name from the zoo, zwierzyniec in Polish, which Zamoyski had built around his beautiful wooden residence, now the headquarters of the Roztocze Nature Park. Completely immersed in a dazzling nature, the place will delight natural history lovers, as Jan Zamoyski created a nature reserve nearby. Many leisure activities are easily accessible such as walks in the parks and woods, carriage rides, cycling, kayaking, horseback riding, skiing, ice skating... without queues or excessive prices. A beautiful hiking trail will take you to the Bukowa góra hill from the park information office. From there you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the area. In summer, there is a large sandy beach on the edge of the Echo Ponds, surrounded by shady forests. Swimming is possible. At the edge of the ponds, it is not uncommon to see the konikpolski, a breed of small, not very beautiful and rather rustic, semi-wild horse, scientifically identified as one of the closest natural descendants of the primitive European wild horse: the tarpan. It can be recognized by its mouse-gray coat and the mullet stripe running down its back.Every summer in August, a famous international film festival (Letnia Akademia Filomowa) and a poster competition take place in Zwierzyniec
