This small town of 6,000 inhabitants, located 20 km south of Poznań and easily accessible from the latter, is known throughout the region and the country for its castle, a crazy project by its philanthropic owner that's well worth a visit. A veritable palace, Kórnik Castle boasts one of the oldest and most important rare-book libraries (still in operation), as well as a superb English-style arboretum (also the oldest in the country) that is perfectly maintained and is the pride of the local inhabitants. Kórnik is a town of atypical attractions, well worth a day trip from Poznań.
