Several theories fuel a controversy over the origins of the town's name: does Leszno take its name from the powerful aristocratic Leszczyński family who held it in the Middle Ages? Or do we have to go back to the time when it was called Leszczno or Leszczyn, two words with very similar etymologies? Whatever the case, the little historic old town is well-preserved and a delight to visit! The town's Protestant buildings make it stand out from the crowd. Indeed, Leszno was one of the most important centers of Protestantism during the Reformation in Poland.
