Some 40 km south of Kalisz lies an impressive hunting palace hidden in a wooded park that seems to have sprung from a fairy tale. Dating from the 1820s, it's a tall, larch-wood, octagonal building with a large, luminous hall opening onto nature. It is adorned with a fabulous old stove that rises up through all the floors and heats the whole place in winter. It was here that the famous pianist and composer Frédéric Chopin stayed twice, in 1827 and 1829. During the long summer months, numerous festivals and concerts are held here in honor of the virtuoso.
