Oberstdorf is nestled in an alpine peak, equidistant between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Lindau. With a population of around 10,000, Oberstdorf is one of Bavaria's best-known winter sports resorts. From a commercial crossroads in the Middle Ages, the small town is now entirely focused on tourism, with some 60 km of ski slopes. From Oberstdorf, you can reach the three highest peaks in the Bavarian Allgäu: Hochvogel (2,593 m), Trettachspitze (2,595 m) and Mädelegabel (2,645 m). Less lofty, but even more popular: the Nebelhorn (2,224 m) and Fellhorn (2,038 m).
