Macaneta is a magnificent beach just 40 km north of Maputo, extensive, wild, with clear waters and white sand. The village has remained authentic, even though it has grown and is invaded every weekend (like its neighbor Marracuene) by Maputo city-dwellers. While the latter has suffered greatly from war and flooding, Macaneta still boasts a few colonial houses and a lovely view of the Incomati river. If a trip to Macaneta once meant a leisurely ferry crossing, since the inauguration of its new bridge in 2016, the journey has shortened considerably to 45 minutes.
