View of the sky, Maputo the beautiful, Maputo the new, is a city nappée of white, dotted with green, bordered by blue. A city that is not getting tired; opening up to the Indian Ocean, long and wide-lined avenues of trees, Portuguese architecture in all its splendour, walks along the coast, plongeantes views over the bay or on the baixa, everything leads to a stroll. Those who know it well say that it is one of the most beautiful capitals in the black continent. Some even call it "New York of Africa," which is difficult to understand when you walk along its streets, but it's looking at the sea that you understand the allusion. And there, tall buildings, a clin of the th century, which, although often a little rundown, stands majestically. In height, the beautiful buildings built by the colonial empire to accommodate its officials remind us of the sinister times of Portuguese domination; a large green area and, at the bottom of the sea, the low city, buzzing with the world. Maputo is a large, modern city. The capital is resolutely turning to the Indian Ocean and to the future. Maputo is also a bay that, every day, up cargo tanks. This bay, along with the head region and the deep water port of Nacala, is the economic lung of the country. Since the peace agreements in 1992, it has not ceased to modernize. And many stockings slowly raised during the communist period and the war go back. Stars bloom on the pediment of hotels; large shopping centres are multiplying…However, the outlying peripheral areas have not benefited from economic growth; life is always very difficult in the bairros surrounding the capital. Maputo is dynamic, and is very much appreciated in the region for the calm that reigns there, the security well installed (compared to its neighbour, the terrible Johannesburg). The capital of the country, Maputo, is totally eccentric, stuck in this little piece of land in the south of the country. Here, the influence of the powerful South African neighbour is palpable. From the long colonial period, the Portuguese left beautiful buildings in the city centre, a well-organised city, roads that cut off with rights angles, wide enough to allow the city to breathe and make pleasant walks, especially on heights. Modernity is manifested by large buildings erected in the city centre; the economic boom, the beautiful cars, the micro-computer shops, the shopping centres. On foot, by car, in collective taxis or in dits minibuses, you can discover the city with pleasure. The centre of Maputo belongs to an elite and therefore to a minority. However, it is not far from the nearby town of Matola. All you have to do is observe the aisles and times of morning and night and traffic congestion to understand that Maputo City is the source of all income. It is of vital economic importance to the population and to the country. A modern city, it attracts both foreign investors and tourists. We will not regret the passage into the capital. Maputo is definitely an essential city.
