A large city between Linz and Salzburg. Two points of interest are the abbey and, a few kilometres away, the Holy Trinity Church in Stadl-Paura, one of the most beautiful baroque buildings in Austria (1714-1725). The huge Lambach Abbey is a Benedictine abbey founded in 1046, rebuilt several centuries later and extended twice in modern times, once between 1972 and 1982, and again between 1992 and 1994, and houses outstanding works of art, including the oldest Romanesque frescoes in the southern German-speaking countries dating from the end of the 11th century, and an exceptional collection of sacred art.
