Just a 10-minute drive from Penzance, Marazion is home to Saint Michael's Mount, a replica of Mont Saint-Michel. In the 11th century, Edward the Confessor bequeathed it to the Benedictine monks who had built the Norman abbey we know today. As early as the5th century, a church was built here, after fishermen had a vision of Saint Michael. In the Middle Ages, pilgrims flocked here, and it also served as a shelter for the Duke of Oxford during the War of the Roses, undergoing a 26-week siege. It can be reached on foot at low tide or by boat at high tide. Marazion is one of the oldest towns in southwest Cornwall.
