Although not a city, Penzance is the most westerly town in Cornwall, and therefore in England. It stretches around the vast Mount's Bay. It's a large port, more developed and industrial, and therefore a little less charming. You can stroll through the pleasant little streets in the center, dotted with stores and fine examples of Georgian architecture, particularly on Chapel Street. You can also admire views of the local Mont Saint-Michel from the promenade, but it's not the cutest place to stay. Prefer St Ives or the much more unspoilt fishing villages nearby.
