In the extreme west of the island, three white chalk blocks are emerging as icebergs: " The Needles ". These "needles" (the fourth collapsed in 1764) are the remains of the line of cliffs that connected Wight to the continent. At the tip, the beach of Alum Bay offers a rare characteristic: its sand is supposed to contain the five fundamental colours (all the more so when it rains).
