On the eastern border of Sussex, Chichester is a small, peaceful country town with valuable architecture. It was founded by the Romans, then marked by the passage of the Normans, who built a cathedral here in 1076. A major local attraction, it is one of the oldest buildings of this style in the country. Goodwood House is another interesting site to visit during a stay in Chichester. It was the seat of the Dukes of Richemont. For archaeology buffs, a visit to Fishbourne Roman Palace is a must. This is the largest recognized Roman residential building in Britain.
