The town of Eastbourne has a population of just over 100,000. A famous seaside resort during the Victorian era, Eastbourne was badly hit by the bombs of the Second World War. Much smaller and quieter than its sister town Brighton, and less historic than neighboring Hastings, it still boasts fine sandy beaches, a pier and a waterfront that bear witness to its former splendor, notably at the Grand Hotel, where Harold Pinter and Debussy stayed. And don't miss a visit to Beachy Head, east of the Seven Sisters, the highest chalk cliff in England.
