The second town of Sucre has approximately 150 000 inhabitants. It is located 120 km from Cumaná and has always been the seat of intense economic activity. It was even one of the most important ports in the country in the middle of the past century. The history of Carúpano began on 23 December 1647, when Bishop Damián López de Haro landed in Puerto Rico and ordered the construction of a church named Santa Rosa de Lima. Later, on 1 June 1816, Bolívar made public the decree of the eponymous decree, which contained slaves wishing to fight for the independence of Venezuela. The city was the first city with a submarine telephone cable that allowed it to communicate with France more than a century ago. In February, do not miss a tour for the carnival, which gradually ignited on Friday to culminate on Monday and Tuesday. Madness pure and simple! Don't forget to book your hotel well before. For the rest, the city remains fairly friendly, with a human size, with a pleasant provincial character. Above all, it is the gateway to the national parks of the Paria peninsula and Turuépano by Land, to see in May-June the laying of Giant Turtles! In the west of the city, several beaches: Güiria de la Playa, Copey, Chancleta. It is also noted that archaeological remains were uncovered a few years ago in Playa Grande, Garrapata and El Mayal.
