The most populous city in the north of the island (25 000 inhabitants), now active and shopping (Calle Marina), is also interesting from the historical point of view. Indeed, it was in the Fort fort that the last and bloodiest battle of independence took place. On 8 August 1817, the Spanish troops captured the fort and killed the last Republican. Thus, the marsh at the foot of the fort bears the name'martyrs lagoon '. This bled has nothing special but is strategically placed to visit the island. Its beach on the right of the lighthouse commonly known as Playa La Galera, protected by Juan Griego's large bay, offers a quiet water plan for the pleasure of both small and large. The sunset excessive you from its brilliance, fascinating, when it comes to embrace a brilliant horizon of a thousand and an ochre light, it is the whole bay that shines… with the chain of Macanao that draws on the horizon!
