In the early 44 th century, the Dutch already exploited pink salt on the ha of salt salt. No less than 32 years (1623-1665) were necessary for the Spanish to build Fort Santiago de León de Araya (see!). All essential materials (even water) needed to be made from Cumaná. It was therefore built to dissuade the Dutch from taking the precious crystallized substance and protecting itself from pirates'incursions. He was declared a National Monument in 1960. Today, 60% of the salt consumed in Venezuela comes from there. Located in the north of the Gulf of Cariaco, almost opposite Cumaná, the most important city on the peninsula of the same name also lives in tourism. Apart from the beach where you can make surfing and windsurfing, you can go to those of Guatapanare, El Guamache and Chacopata (from which you also leave Lanchas for Margarita). In the south, the beaches of Punta Arenas and El Castillo are also worth a visit. Don't forget to protect yourself because the sun is violent and the corners of the shade are being asked.
