The settlement of Los Altos dates back to 1515 when Dominican monks occupy the Indian lands «Chichiriviche». Towards the end of the th century Los Altos created a reputation thanks to its coffee plantations. Recognised to Spain where the rubiacée seed obtains a price for its quality. Today, you can still enjoy "criollo" coffee grown and treated as used in one of the haciendas in the area. Los Altos is located 30 minutes from Puerto La Cruz and 1 hour from Cumaná. Today the crisis hit the village: many special houses and posadas are on sale.
