San Vittorino is an old medieval village, frazione of L'Aquila, located about eight kilometers away from the SS-80. Of ancient origin, closely linked to the Sabine city of Amiternum, the village developed from the 12th century and was organized around the Romanesque church of San Michele. People come here mainly to visit the site of the ancient Amiternum, which is located in its vicinity. This Roman city founded by the Sabines was the home of the historian Sallustus and, according to some writings, of Pontius Pilate. For its historical interest, San Vittorino is therefore a recommended stop in the province of L'Aquila.
