A quiet medieval town in winter, very fashionable in summer. In the old town stands the 15th-century Palazzo Centurioni, which belonged to the Republic of Pisa and was founded by the della Gherardesca, Gualani and Lanfranchi families. In 1447, Alfonso of Aragon, King of Naples, decided to enlarge the castle. Then, successively, the castle passed into the hands of the Sienese, then the Florentines, the Spanish and the French, until in 1559 Cosimo I decided to acquire the island of Giglio, the old town and its palace. The palace became the court house for the entire Medici reign. Today, it houses exhibitions.
