Casa Rossa was built by the Jesuit engineer Leonardo Ximenes, whose objective was to clean up the Castiglione marshes.

The opportunity given here is to understand how man has fought against marshes. Built by the Jesuit engineer Leonardo Ximenes in 1768, the Casa Rossa was intended to clean up the Castiglione della Pescaia marshes, separating fresh and salt water to prevent the spread of malaria and guarantee fishing activities. The equipment used for this work is still in place. Observation equipment is also available, enabling visitors to discover the surrounding ecosystem.
