Timetable

National museums and monuments are generally closed on Mondays. They are generally open from 9am to 7pm, but some take a break between 1pm and 2:30pm. Churches open in the morning until noon or 12:30 and from 4pm to 7pm. Only the larger churches remain open throughout the afternoon, as in the case of St. Mark's Basilica in Venice. Visits, however, are not permitted during celebrations.

Tours of the Doge's Palace on the theme of "Secret Itineraries" are only available on reservation and with a guide for a guided presentation (palazzoducale.visitmuve.it). In general, it's best to book and buy your tickets online via visitmuve.it

Venezia Unica - City Pass (Venice Card). ✆ +39 041 24 24, www.veneziaunica.it - An "à la carte" pass whose price varies according to the length of stay and services chosen. Among the possible benefits are: special admission to municipal museums and churches on the Chorus circuit, ACTV transport (vaporetto/bus) and transfers to and from the airport. Package to be booked directly online on the Venezia Unica website.

Guide Rolling Venice + card, reserved for young people aged between 6 and 29, a practical guide to the city that includes a discount card for use in shops, cultural institutions and public transport. On sale at the tourist office or authorized retailers for €6.

Museum Pass. www.visitmuve.it - A one-way ticket that guarantees access to all municipal museums, including the Doge's Palace, Ca'Rezzonico, the Bibiloteca Marciana and the Correr Museum. Valid for 6 months. Price €41, family rate, student, senior... €23.

Chorus Pass. www.chorusvenezia.org- The Chorus association for the preservation and promotion of Venetian churches offers a pass giving access to the city's 16 most beautiful churches. Price €14 (adult), family (2 adults, 2 children) €28 and reduced €10.

Guided tours

Many operators offer guided tours of Venice. Tours can be taken on foot, by boat or... in the air for an unforgettable experience (check out the Lido Heliport, www.heliair.it).

What's very local

A completely pedestrianized city is a real dream for little visitors! Children will fall under the spell of the city on the water, and Venice has many surprises in store for them. The Rialto market and its perfumes, Murano and its blow-makers, the Lido and its beaches... Among the museums, the Museo Storico Navale will unveil its finest ship models, while at the Museo di Storia Naturale they'll discover dinosaurs, fossils and stuffed animals. The Guggenheim is dedicated to them on Sunday afternoon (activities for 4-10 year-olds). For an afternoon in the green, head for the Giardini park, and for a gourmet snack, join them in discovering the countless flavors of gelati from the city's many ice-cream parlors.
