Forget about the flowery side that sticks to the Bridge of Sighs! The reality is quite different from love... The sighs were those of the condemned who breathed their last before being taken to the dungeons on the other side of the canal. Built in 1602 in marble and white Istrian stone by Antonio da Ponte, the baroque structure is part of the Doge's Palace. It is composed of two distinct courtyards with windows forming a sort of chiseled stone grid. View on the river or on the lagoon, but impossible to escape from it...
